Domani Jackson, a junior defensive back at Mater Dei High who has verbally committed to play football at USC, won the boys 100-meter dash final in a wind-legal 10.25 seconds to equal the 1985 state record held by the legendary Henry Thomas of Hawthorne. Jackson improved on his previous-best 10.48 from the prelims, the same time he also ran June 12 to win the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 title. Six athletes had run wind-aided times faster than Thomas in the past 35 years, but the closest wind-legal performance came in 2018 when Asani Hampton of Yucaipa ran 10.26 at the Citrus Belt League finals. Jackson also rebounded from Mater Dei being edged by a 41.56 to 41.57 margin against Mission Hills in the 4x100 relay to open the meet.
